The Maze Runner by James Dashner

A maze ed

I try not to blog too often due to the fact that it seems incredibly personal. I want to say all the things you might put in a journal but find that it could quite possibly be a terrible idea. However, I do believe blogging can be a good chronicle if I can just find my niche.
I will keep it rather simple I guess. A book review seems in order and therefore will be done. I recently finished The Maze Runner and Scorch Trials. The books are both by James Dashner. While I am slightly annoyed with his wanna be cursing. Shuck in particular, I can see his need for trying to replace certain vocabulary. Based on the fact that we are reading a young adult fiction book his priority is to find a connection with a youth fan base. Dystopia novels are highly thought provoking when done well and I believe this to be the case with Mr. Dashner. The actions we take in this life to simplify and find acceptance for our behaviour is often less than satisfactory. While I do not yet know the result of the series I have a few conclusions that have been formed.
The Glade offers a false sense of security that many seem to have. The rest of the world can be shut out every evening. Although the circumstances are not ideal all of the needs are being met. The Glade is basically as safe as those within the walls. In our own lives these conditions tend to present themselves. On occasion, we all live in our own bubbles and feel there is no need to change our circumstances. It is, of course, in many instances a choice. Doing something new can be frightening but also broaden our horizons and bring new exciting adventures.
The Maze itself is the choices we make. There are millions of choices. Never ending, ever changing. If we enter into it good or bad may occur. There are moments when others free agency effects our own agency. These people can change our choices and help to turn their outcomes. Our reactions to those outcomes become increasingly important. Are we offended, hurt, do we give up. So many reactions can come from each individual action.
I could dive in further but feel spoilers would be divulged. The actual interpretation of these novels is based purely on my own individual thoughts. I think to further dissect the books the first step is pulling out each character and what emotion they represent. The Scorch Trials is a whole different blog.

Moment

Just remembering sitting in my parents kitchen early in the morning. The only light is from the windows. Dad is there, he worked a lot so that's a treat. We are listening to some old country music. The real stuff before country singers lost their twang. We were having bowls of steaming oatmeal together. It was a saturday and it was nice. Memories like these are the ones I cherish. It didn't cost a thing, we just sat quietly but it was one of the many really good moments in my life.

Shouldn't I be doing something else

We had a fun day yesterday. Some cousins came over in the morning and we got to play after the fellas woke up. Then we hit the local ymca and Ben went swimming, which he loves of course. Josh played in the daycare and I got on the elliptical. I promptly got bored and watched a different show every few min. This included clean house, matlock and csi. When Ben got out of the water he apologized for getting water on my pants. Such a gentleman. Next we got to go get paperwork filled out for preschool at the doctors office. Then all spur of the moment like we all went to go see Ponyo. It was ok but not something I would buy. First of all my 4 year old has enough trouble wandering off and second of all we have been working on the no kissing thing. It was a great day with popcorn and recess pieces for dinner.
You know when your driving and someone pulls the dumb card and thinks they must be important enough to disregard all laws cause they are in a hurry (or just dumb). Yeah that's the end of that thought.
I made those muffins this morning. I used only wheat flower and the result was a bit too grainy for me. The boys took them down and so did Mr. wonderful. In the future I think we will go halvsies on wheat and white. After breakfast we had to go back to the docs for a shot. Ben informed me as soon as the nurse shut the door that she was not nice she was just naughty. On the way out Dr. J asked what was wrong with his leg (he was limping). I said he got a shot and so his leg stopped working. As we were getting in the car I was informed that we had to go to the ice cream store. I am assuming this was learned from dadio. Ben did end up very disappointed by the fact that they don't make blue milkshakes. Well it's time to get to work on dinner. Roasted potatoes and some pork chops with a lovely italian salad.

What woulld you do if I sang out of tune

I am pondering house projects today. So much to do and it all costs something. The playroom has to be drywalled so I don't go crazy with toys. James and I both like end results just not the process of getting there. The next one on the list is replacing the kitchen door. It is due to be done before Saturday. Of course, there is a temple trip Friday so I may not have it done. Such is life.
On a different note I have decided to start cooking for my family again. Less frozen meals and sandwiches and more home cookin'. So every week I make one thing new. I will update if this is a winner or loser. This week : As you wish muffins. You take your basic muffin and put fruit in before cooking. Sounds tasty but I have been fooled before.
Home cleaning has also become a priority, due to the fact that I have been slacking off. Today my home is clean. Tomorrow I will start the garage. We still have roof reshingling stuff in there. I gotta have a place to park inside. Very important in the crazy Kansas weather.
